In 2012 we experienced a strong phenomenon based on a range of mystic beliefs explaining that cataclysmic or transformative events would occur around December 21st of 2012.

After reading and listening about the very popular “End of the World” Mayan doomsday for several months, I started noticing that a lot of people would start doing things they haven’t done before, because they didn’t have time or were too scared to try. This apocalyptic prediction somehow brought the Carpe Diem concept into the society’s daily lives. With “The end of the world is coming, Let’s go make out” print, I wanted to make the catastrophic myth a little bit less serious, facing it from a youth perspective and using it as an excuse for the society to enjoy the pleasures of the moment without a concern for the future.

During the first week of december 2012, I decided to post the print online and see people’s reaction. A lot of my friends started “liking” and “commenting” the picture on Facebook and it got reblogged several times on Tumblr. In that moment I decided to print out an edition of thirty 3’x5’ “End of the World” prints and give them away to people for free, approaching them to give this print to a person they desire but haven’t had the courage to let them know. By using “the end of the world” as an excuse and the physical print as the medium of the message, people would let go their fear of getting rejected and take a friendship or relationship to the next level.

A lot of participants agreed to contact me later on, to tell me if things worked out with the individuals they had feelings for. After meeting all these people and listening to their stories, I am happy to say that overall, the “End of the World” prints had a very effective outcome in the participants’ romantic life.
